La Quinta is based within walking distance of the beautiful
mountain village of Sedella
(pictured top right) There are many close by places to
visit, our local village, a good walk away, the pretty
"Plaza" of Competa for a cool drink by the splashing
fountain, the seaside town of Torre del Mar, which has our nearest
golf course and Nerja with it's 14.5km of coastline, with 12 delightful
coves and beaches. Just 1 km inland from here, Nerja's great natural
wonder lay hidden for thousands of years in a huge cave, where
music and dance festivals are held every Summer, Delightful promenade
walks can be enjoyed along the beachside, puntuated with tapas
bars and many Chiringuitas.
The
surrounding area provides a wealth of history within
the Pueblos Blancos
(White Villages). The beautiful city of Malaga, the "Gateway"
to the Costa Del Sol, is just over an hour away and within a few
hours drive away you can discover the ancient cities of Cordoba,
Granada, Jerez and Seville, steeped in history and fascinating
Moorish architecture.
The
old Muslim town of Ronda with the famous 100 metre deep
El Tajo gorge and the oldest bullring in Spain built around 1785.
Further to the West lies the Grazeloma Natural Park; this spectacular
limestone region is home to one of Europe's largest colonies of
Griffin Vultures and this magnificent bird can be seen circling
the cliffs and valleys.
World-renowned
Marbella, a resort town with many excellent golf courses
and shop till you drop possibilities and the world famous town
of Puerto Banus with it's Jet set style marina and restaurant
waterfront.
Gibraltar
is just over 2.5 hours drive. The Rock is a fascinating place
to visit. Take the cable car to the top, see the famous Barbary
Apes, the caves and historic tunnels and view the two continents
of Africa and Europe across the Straights. Gibraltar boasts extensive
offshore banking facilities as well as being a duty free zone.
Africa
is close enough to visit by Hydrofoil from Algeciras, which is
a little over 3 hours drive away. Ceuta, a Spanish city enclave
on the African coast and Tangiers, a Moroccan city are about an
hours crossing time away. Although there are frequent sailings,
pre booking is a must, especially from July to September. There
is a day trip with a guide available to Tangiers from Nerja by
coach, a long day of course, but worth it.
Andalucia is larger than Wales and offers an
incredible diversity of landscapes from the Mediterranean to the
High Sierras. The moors regarded this, their Kingdom of Al-Andulas,
as paradise on earth and it is not hard to see why.
